WARNING! FOODS TO AVOID

Dogs should avoid certain foods.  To eat the wrong foods may cause digestive stomach upset and/or long-term illness, and even death.  
So, before studying food preparation for your dog, let's be aware of the following foods potentially toxic for dogs.


ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Alcoholic Beverages will cause intoxication, coma and death.


                                                                                                         


AVOCADO
Avocado leaves, seeds, fruit and bark contain persin, which cause
vomiting and diarrhea.








BONES:  FISH, MEAT, POULTRY & OTHER MEAT
SOURCES
Can cause obstruction or
laceration of the digestive system


CHOCOLATE
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine.  In dogs, chocolate 
will cause heart rate, difficult breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive urination, and restlessness.  Toxic doses will lead to seizures, irregular heart rhythm and death.


CAFFEINE
Caffeine products will be toxic and  affect your dog's heart and nervous system.  Products that include caffeine are chocolate, coke cola, tea & coffee.Read labels if you suspect ingredient in foods.


FISH:  RAW, CANNED OR
COOKED
When fed in high amounts or exclusively,can result in a thiamine deficiency leading               
to loss of appetite, seizures, and in severe cases




GRAPES & RAISINS                                                                                                
Grapes and raisins contain an unknown toxin that can lead to acute kidney and liver failure.








HUMAN VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS CONTAINING IRON
Will damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to the other organs including liver and kidneys.


MACADAMIA NUTS           
These nuts contain an unknown toxin that will affect your dog's muscular system, digestive circulations and nervous system.


MARIJUANA
Marijuana will deprss the nervous system, cause vomiting and changes in the dog's heart rate.


MILK & DAIRY PRODUCTS
Particularly adult dogs may develop             
diarrhea if given large amounts






MUSHROOMS                   
Mushrooms, particularly the wild one contain various toxins that affects your dog's nervous system, causing vomiting and diarrhea.


ONIONS & GARLIC





Contain sulfoxides and disulfides which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia.  Garlic is less toxic than onions.


CITRUS OIL EXTRACTS     
Citrus Oil Extracts is toxic for your dog and will cause a reaction of vomiting, drooling and trembling.  Products that contain citrus oil extract are insecticidal sprays, insect repellent food additives, shampoos.


RAW EGGS
Contain avidin, an enzyme which decrease the absorption of bioten.
This can  cause skin and hair coat problems.  Raw eggs may also 
contain Salmonella.




RAW  MEAT
Taking a chance as some meat may contain bacteria such as Salmonella and E.Coli, which cause vomiting and diarrhea.


SALT
Be careful, for if eaten in large 
amounts will lead to electrolyte                   
imbalances.

















SUGAR-TYPE FOODS                        
Will affect and cause obesity, 
dental problems, and possibly diabetes mellitus.














YEAST DOUGH

The dough can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach or intestines.




XYLITOL ARTIFICIAL SWEETNER
Will cause hypoglycemia, and result in vomiting, weakness and collapse.  Can affect in liver failure if given in high doses.
